Post-Kenny Redux
Woah… What a day! Before I go into the details, let’s just say that I had a great time watching Sara Evans, Sugarland, Brooks & Dunn, and Kenny Chesney on his Cruzan Rum Flip Flop Summer Tour 2007. It is soooo nice to be out of the studio NOT producing radio jingle packages for at least one day this summer. And on behalf of Michael and myself, we’d like to give a huge THANK YOU to Rob Walker, Program Director at KKWF. This was by far the biggest Country show I’d ever gone to and actually the first time I’d been to Qwest Field… Both were total spectacles.

Michael Berlin’s famous steakhouse bleu cheese burgers
I headed over to Michael’s house for a little pre-show BBQ action at about noon. Michael fired up the Weber in preparation for steakhouse burgers with bleu cheese and all the fixin’s… One of his specialties and not too hard to see why. It was a beautiful 82°F (28°C) day and Pacifico’s with lime, burgers and a little polish of Herradura Añejo was the solid foundation we needed for what was sure to be a barn burner.

100.7 The Wolf was broadcasting from a pre-show beer garden outside Pioneer Square’s Fuel Seattle and proved to be the perfect place to take in all of the pre-show happenings. Fuel had a walk-through BBQ, a boxing ring with GIANT gloves and a mechanical bull among an improvised beach complete with bikini babes on lounge chairs. The people watching was absolutely exquisite here.
And as another layer of interest, the beer garden was adjacent to where the Firefighter’s Combat Challenge was happening as part of Pioneer Square’s Fire Festival. Billed as the toughest 2 minutes in sports, it was amazing to watch these guys and gals bust-ass in their hot and heavy gear while the sun was blazing.

Once at the concert, each act of the day were totally superb. Michael is a big Sugarland fan and thoroughly dug their performance. Between Michael and I, Brooks & Dunn are our favorite act out of the line-up and did not disappoint. Ronnie Dunn’s voice is in great shape and both he and Kix Brooks put on a high-energy show for a couple of geezers. The main event was definitely Kenny Chesney. Going on just after dark, he had the stadium lit up and rocking in no time flat.

We were invited to the Wolf’s aftershow party back at Fuel and had a great time. We were introduced to Della Pizzati, Rob’s girlfriend and Director of Sales at Entercom/Seattle, cracked jokes with Wolf morning jock Fitz of Fitz in the Morning and had a great chat with Mike Moore, Program Director of KWJJ - The Wolf in Portland (and likely to be yet another recipient of our kick-ass Wolf package). But after a day of blazing sunshine, about 10 beers and six shots of tequila, I’d had about enough and so had Michael. Thanks again to Rob Walker… We’re already starting to get excited for Keith Urban in September!
